A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Carb Overflow

Just thinking aloud really.....

I occasionally get a puddle on the garage floor. It's 100% gas & comes from the bowl overflow tubes (mostly from Carb 3 from memory but sometimes I think it's from more than one carb).

Some facts:

1. There is no gas getting in to the oil.
2. The Petcock was brand new OEM Suzuki but that was around 6 years ago. Appears to function properly when tank removed.
3. The puddle is not drastic & generally only appears when bike has sat for some time & is then disturbed by moving it, shaking it etc.
4. There is no "rhym or reason" as to the timing (other than movement) of when gas will appear.
5. Carbs were rebuilt 6 years ago & have been removed since (when I did new Kawi Z1 boots) and are clean.

So....

My first thought was that carb bowls are overfilling from a leaky carb inlet valve BUT where is the added gas coming from?
Originally I thought it was just the gas from the fuel line (and it could well be) but the bowls do appear to re-fill & spill over repeatedly (i.e. it doesn't just dump gas once & then not dump it again).

My thinking is either my floats are set too high or the inlet valve is leaking plus my petcock must have a very slow leak as well for this to happen (or perhaps there is enough gas in the gas line for it to be able to spill a few times, as I say above, it's not a big puddle!)

Thoughts please?? :)

Only sometimes? Sticky float needle. Probably just enough to drain what gas is in the line.

Used to be only sometimes... now it's probably each time I park it, does it as soon as I move it.

This is one of those niggles that I haven't dealt with for probably a year. :D

Given that the bike has been known to sit for a 3-4 weeks at a time on occasion perhaps one of them is just gummed up... :)

Yup, float needle sticking. Add some additive to your fuel each time you gas up. You could run a tank or two through of additive to try and clean what's in the carbs.

Yeah, I was running seafoam for a bit, now been running stabil but should probably switch back to sea foam I guess. Part of the problem is not enough riding (a lot of my mileage goes on the KLR and the kids stopping play!).
