    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I am new and i have somne navigational issues so I have to ask this question again. I have an 1983 GS1100g with pods and vance and hines 4 into 1 with accell coils. Bike came this way. Can I put a stack air box back on with out rejetting? Can I leave the 4 into 1 exhaust on if I put a stock air box back on?
 
You need to rejet for the pipe and/or pods. With the pipe only and the stock airbox installed, install a Dynojet stage 1 jet kit for the bike. With the pipe and pods, you want the stage 3 Dynojet kit. Running pipe and/or pods without a rejet will cause the bike to run poorly as the mixture will be lean.

Thanks. Carbs were rejetted when PO put pods on I guess I leave the pods and pipe on. Thank beig the case what is the proper way to handle the breather?
 
I bought a K&N crankcase breather filter.
Is the bike running poor to warrant a rejet?
 
I favor an Emgo filter for my bikes. They're small, attractive and about $5 over the counter at your local Cycle Gear or what have you. You can also use an inline fuel filter, or a muffler off an air control solenoid. The latter is made from sintered brass and look very much like the element from an inline fuel filter. Grainger is a good source. These have the advantage of being the size of your thumb and I think they look really cool but you can zip-tie it to the frame backbone if you don't want to look at it.
 
Bike runs well. Is way faster than the old yamaha 750 I had. I was just thinking about removing the pods and putting a air box on because I don't like the smoke that come from the breather. I am not really sure if the breather is supposed to smoke like that.

No, a tight engine won't smoke at all, nothing should come out.
Probably blowby past the rings, has the bike sat unused a long time?
Been run a few hundred thousand miles?
Been seriously abused?

Not sure on this one Tom. I think a little vapor fuming is perfectly normal...just don't ask me to quantify how much smoke is acceptable. Not only is there gas blow by coming out of the breather there is also oil mist fumes.

As long as the engine compression is OK, I wouldn't worry about some misting (just catch it in something).

Two of mine running pods had nothing come out of the breather but a little bit of dry air, pressure pulses really. The third one that had a little something blowing out was a real worn motor, moquito-killing, nose plugging, smokescreen mobile.
 
Bike doesn't seem to be abused. Has 25 or 26,000 miles. Could it be stuck rings? What will it take to free them?

If it has sat a long time they sometimes get stuck in their grooves on the pistons...

Riding it a lot might free them up. This would be my first choice.

Putting some Marvel Mystery Oil in the cylinders for a week or so may help.

this may seem a bit odd, but put a quart of diesel in a full tank of gas and ride like a bat out of hell. if its the rings that are stuck they will POP free and you will feel a sudden power burst. a member from the suzuki madura forum suggested it and i tried it on my madura with great success.
