A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Carb problem or petcock

Instead of high jacking someone else's post I'll just start my own.

I recently experienced a spike in gas flow while riding my 85' Katana one day last week. I had the bike up around 170km @ about 9500 rpm. When I came to a stop the idle stayed at 4000rpm. To continue my ride I had to lower the idle screw. Since then the bike doesn't ride right. It still feels like its sucking in too much gas. Earlier this year I had a new petcock installed as well as valve adjustment due to new gaskets install. Could this be related to the problem? Guys at work tell me it could be a stuck float or dirty carbs. I don't really believe in mechanic in a can so I'll probably take it to the shop this week. I just wanted to see if anyone else experienced something like this. Help me ease my mind.

Any help would be appreciated.

I don't think the petcock is the problem from the way you describe the symptoms. However it is easy enough to check. With the bike not running and the petcock in the center position or reserve. Pull off the fuel line. If fuel is leaking out you have a problem. Also check your oil sight glass and smell the oil. If you smell gas or the tank is overfilled you probably have gas in the oil and your petcock has failed. Do NOT run the bike if this is the case.
Your problem is probably with the carbs and there are loads of experts on this site who will be along shortly to help you with that.
