A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

having some "tightness" issues reinstalling the carbs, airbox, and filter box back onto 1980 GS1100E.. I put the carbs on, but then there isn't enough room
to get the air box on (frame is in the way)..

What is the 'order of operation' to get these three items installed and inline ?

(do I need to remove the gas tank ? )

Oh yeah, def remove the tank. Position air boxes and carbs loosely. I get air box pieces in place first, then wiggle and jiggle the carbs past the forward airbox, from the right side. Kind of on par with putting socks on a rooster, so take your time. A bit of oil on rubbers will help things slide around, too. Get carbs into intake boots first, then forward air box, then tighten down.

Good luck. It'll happen.

Yep, put the airbox in first - just loosely, not bolted up. Carbs next, slide the front of the carbs in then pop the airbox on the back and bolt it all up.

Oh - and connect the carb cables first - you can do it when you have fitted the carbs but it's the devil.

Before putting the airbox in make sure that you soak the air box rubbers in warm water to make the plyable so the carbs fit on easier too. Make sure that you clamps are the right way up and on the rubbers too when the box goes back in. It can be a real PITA to fit them after.

Then follow the above rule.

I've always found that CV's go in better from the points side than the alternator side also.

It is very tight on my bike. I wound up removing the motor mounts and jacked up the rear of the engine. Gave me a half inch more room. Made it way easy.

thanks for the ideas. I did take the tank off. It made it much easier working from 'above'.. As suggested, I got everything in/near its final install place, then got the carbs onto the intake (used heat gun), then I applied a little hand cream to the inside rim of plastic/rubber, and i had to use my heat gun over/below all four, but once heated up, they were pliable enough to wiggle them into place. As stated, perseverance was the key..

And I was able to get both the choke and accelerator cables attached even though I had already installed the carbs/air box. (again with tank still off).

thanks ya'll
