I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

CompuFire mounting location

CompuFire mounting location

Before we start ?

I have considered putting it on the side of the battery box where ?ignitor? is. That would take creating a bracket on that side and creating at least one extra mounting hole to put the ignitor in the OEM R/R spot.

I have considered putting it below the battery box but there seems to be limited vertical space to the swing arm (maybe because its is an ?L?)

The question -

To mount it in the current R/R location, I can either create a plate or I can grind a little aluminum from the CompuFire.

Maximum plate size is the paper cut-out seen but actual can be smaller. The BLUE line indicates the OEM mounting plate. Using the add-on plate, one hole will be in OEM mounting plate for the top hole and second (bottom) Compufire mounting hole is just in the new plate.

Please let me know your thoughts on the following ?

A ? Needs the plate - Wires are going up. Probably not an issue but just doesn?t seem quite right. One-point grounding would be on the bottom mounting screw.

B ? Needs the plate - Seems pretty symmetrical. One-point grounding would be on the bottom mounting screw.

C ? No plate needed. Can use one fuse box screw and need to make one hole for the other side. Nice and symmetrical and wires are pointing down. The trimming seems to affect only the aluminum of the CompuFire and not the internals. Others here have done similar trimming. One point grounding may be difficult on the left screw but possible on the right screw.

Thanks for your thoughts on these options or please make other recommendations you think I should consider.

Thanks,
Andrew

Maybe C, if you can move fusebox to the left a little, might not have to trim, and wires are pointing down out of the way of other stuff. terrylee

There are some pictures in my CF install guide on how much I ground down the CF case. Looking from the back you could cut anything as long as you stay away from the central area that contains the epoxy potting material. Personally I avoided cutting anything from the R/R I could see from the front. By cutting a corner off the back I was able to mount flat on the plate. I hated to cut the unit as well, but rest assured the SH-775 with connector is much larger still.

Mounting wires down or at least back is probably preferable although it is a sealed unit it just helps to keep the wire inlets dry.

For me by cutting the back I could get a good fit similar to your choice A but without seeing anything cut from the front.

You will notice that the CF is a little different in that the case is literally ground and the ground wire screws into the base from behind. It is easy to tap and add another screw for a second wire (made from some of the excess length from the leads provided).

So with these two heavy leads I ran one to the battery and one to the frame. I piggy backed other ground to the frame mount and called it good. While this is a variation on a single point ground, it is no less robust (actually better) as far as the frame and battery grounds and for aesthetic(and space) reasons I avoided running the harness ground to the R/R.

I installed an SH775, larger in size, mounted to the right side of the battery box, where the ignitor used to live. I then moved the ignitor to where the old r/r used to be.
