    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Cracked choke tube

The distal end of my choke tubes seem to be cracked in last few mm, 3/4 of my carbs are this way. I don't think this is critical but I'm not sure. Anybody have experience with this?

My other question is about float height. I disassembled my VM carbs with great care, noting which side of the float is "up." Upon assembly if I orientate the floats the same way they were during disassembly they will be way outside of the 22-24mm range they are supposed to live in. Bending the tab isn't getting me much closer. I imagine I just have this thing upside down, is that right?

Yes,it is upside down.
You can slip a piece of tubing over your choke tube,or solder it.
 
That crack doesnt matter. The tube is submerged in fuel WAY WAY above that tiny crack when the bowls are full. Change the floats around and get on with finishing the rebuild. And youll notice there are holes at the very very top that bleed off excess fuel getting sucked up the tube...so its nothing to be concerned about.
 
You do however want to be sure the hole in the bowl the tube fits down is clean and the port at the bottom of the bowl that lets fuel into the hole is open as well. I have had then so clogged with hard crap that I took the torch and heated the outside of the bowl and watched as the black bubbly tar crap came flowing out the hole and into the bowls. I then soaked them in Acetone for a while and poked the holes out with a wire. Then carb spray and air to ensure they were open.
