A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Custom exhaust for gs850, tuneable straight pipe

  • Thread starter Thread starter blackstag

realistically, how far do you plan to go designing your exhaust?
so, you create a prototype according to all your maths and calculations and tuning theories and get it made, bolt it on, and the bike runs like a pile of crap............
then where do you go? chop it up and take a few mm off each header length, or add a few mm in diameter to the headers, or add a few mm to the length of the baffle?
just how much time and effort do you plan to waste before you give up and go buy a ready made exhaust that works, straight out the box, for a few hundred bucks!

time is never wasted if i have learned something

i dont care to just go out and by an exhaust. I am doing this to learn about exhaust systems, their effect on the bike and what is needed to create a properly tuned exhaust system.

the information that I have learned thus far has given me a great sense of accomplishment. i understand things that I would have never thought a second about before.

i seem to have offended you by doing this. its up to you whether or not you want to continue coming back to read about my endeavors. I am by no means twisting your arm and making you come back.

to answer your question, i will continue to tune the system until I am happy with the results.

We need pictures.
And dyno charts.

you have not offended me by any means. i will keep coming back to read this thread, i enjoy a good laugh :D

We will be looking forward to the thread called "How do I rebuild my melted 850?" :-\\\

.

ill be looking for that

take my advice cause ive done all the newb bike stuff

ive hacked a set of mis matched stock exhaust for a cool straight pipe sound....sounded like crap...a tractor more or less

i bought a 4-1...took out baffle...thought it was cool to haul ass in town between buildings

then i relized how annoying a really loud bike is..so i made a rather quiet baffle with just enough tone to hear it but not to be stupid loud...

go an buy stock exhaust, 4-2 or a 4-1....unless your a good welder and know how to fabricate stuff then make your own

and i do own an 850...its just enough power for amusement...

but its STILL an 850..i wanted to make mine fast with pods n crap...that changed quick...now its slowly returning to stock the next few months

well i dont have access to a dyno and i dont have pictures because i am still working my way through the theory and practicality of it

i can weld, so im not worried.

well see where i go from here.

i know the system will not be a 4 into 1. the best best scenario for my bike is going to be a 4:2:1 system. 4 to1 systems tend to favor max power. i would like to shoot for best mid range torque since it has been already pointed out, thats where I will be spending most of my time.
