A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

I have a question about a stripped threads on my bike. The previous owner apparently over tightened one of those wide headed bolts on the cylinder head cover with an o-ring beneath. The threads are totally gone.

Looking in the manual I see that these bolts attach to the cam shaft holders. I understand that these "holders" cant be replaced as they are are machined to fit with the rest of the engine block.

What would you recommend I do? I'm thinking go up 1 size on the thread if I can get the bolt that fits.

thank you

Maybe this is bad form, but I have a bonus question :) The bike wont rev above 8000 rpm. I am doing all kinds of maintenance over this winter, so hopefully the problem wont be there next season.
I am just curious to your thoughts.

So far I have installed a new air filter, and a new fuelcock. Next on my list are carb cleaning and valve adjustment and carb balancing.

The bike has stock airbox and 4-1 exhaust

regarding your stripped hole. I don't think you will find that screw with the next larger thread size, so your best bet would be a heli-coil or similar!! Also get a NEW screw as the threads are probably messed up too.

I bet if you clean your carbs and do the valve check, next spring your bike will rev freely to redline and beyond....

Helicoil or solid insert. This is a very common problem and easily fixable. Use a drill press to drill the hole for the insert so it goes in straight straight.
