I'm going to give this a try tomorrow. I always have my tank off so the paint gets bumped off the tanks seam around the steering stem and bottom. The chrome molding should take care of this problem and look good too.

try it

try it

Let me know how it works out Steve, I've got a couple of pick on mine and it'd be good camoflage (SP)....Mike

It works out greatly well. I did this mod on my Vulcan750 and it still shines to this day and protects the tank from the edge of the front cylinder hitting the tank.

And it only costs like 4 dollars for enough molding to do the tank and both fenders!!

worked very well on my gs750es's tank. looks better......

It took 7 feet of 3/8" molding to go around my 1100s tank. My first impression of the product is 10/10 but time will tell how it weathers. I started and ended the bead underneath of my seat so it appears to be endless, none of the turns on the tank were too difficult for the product either.

Bought two 2' lengths on the way home tonight at Crappy Tire, around $4.00, put them on in the parking lot, looks good, thanks Steve....Mike

door edge moulding

Hey guys
Yes it works very well over time. I have the black door edge mouldng on my GS1100E tank since last year and it works well. Its still going strong.
Archie

Yep, done it also and it holds up pretty good. Just make sure you clean the wax off the edge so the trim sticks better.

Got a picture of it?

I'd like to see a picture also. Are you guys using chrome or black?

I use the black. Started doing it years ago. Works great. The only problem I have had is getting it to shape to tightly curved sections. It will pop off at times. I probably need to break down and buy some new trim. Also, on my 850 the edge where the tank and the seat come together is pretty sharp. The trim keeps the metal from cutting into the seat. Unfortunately, that is also the curvy part where the trim likes to slide off.

Please excuse the appearance of my carb, the gasket is leaking. :?

I'd suggest taking it off and replacing it at once a year anyways. It creates a small area for moisture to collect and over time, rust.. If you take it off once a year, clean with soap and water, let dry and replace or replace with a new piece (its cheap enough) you don't have to worry about this issue.

You know what would go great with that leaking carb? A missing sidecover!! So to help you out, you can send me the one on the other side of the bike! :)

And LOOK.. the color is even right!

Okay, I'll add you to my will but bear in mind I'm only 25

MrRick: Right hand sidecover off of GS1100E

Cheer, Steve

Steve I must apologize to you. I have over looked this thread every time it was posted to because I though it sounded like a hillbilly idea patch up job from the title of the thread. It just goes to show where closed minded thinking will get you. I finally looked at this out of shear morbid curiosity of why it is getting so many posts and when I looked at the pictures you posted I felt like an ass.

It positively looks great and is a good idea for sure. This has taught me to be even more open minded than I thought I already was. Not doing so makes you miss out.

Great work man! :)

That looks really good. I was waiting to see someone elses before I did it. Does that have an adhesive on it? I'll need to make a trip to Autozone.

Haha, I guess you could call me a hill billy and it would fit if I was named Billy. :)

Yes there is a bead of glue inside the molding. It is a liquid that spreads during installation.
