Dual Headlights on a GS?

I was recently looking at some motorcycle magazines and I came across a BMW R1150 Rockster...it was a 2002 or so.

I kinda liked the dual front headlights and was wondering if someone here ever attempted doing such an installation on a "GS1XXX".

If so, could you post some pics, or let me know how you went about it?

Have'nt seen it on a GS, but on another forum someon mounted a set of dual headlights from a Buel on a KLR. The headlight assembly wasn't that expensive either. Check it out:

I've fitted a set of dual street-fighter lights.
Bolts on straightforward, at least that's what i thought...
Fried the switch on the first day i used them, seems it can't handle 2 x 55 watts. :-D

If you are going to run dual headlights USE A RELAY triggered from the headlight switch.

If you are going to run anything other than stock You NEED to use a relay for the headlight circuit

nice job, and this is on your '79 GS1000?

are the headlights all good now (did you put the relay in) or are you still having problems?

Yep, found that one out the hard way 8-[
Mkacz doesn't have to..i mean find out the hard way,
not go without a relay :-D

Where did you find the headlights? I would like to mount a set like that on a stripped down Ninja 250. Give it a Speed Triple kind of look.

Found the lights on the dutch e-bay called marktplaats.
They sell them at most cycle shops i've seen, mostly around 99 Euro's

And use a relay !!! :-D
Took me some help from my mate the technical guru to figure it out...
She's not running at the moment, will fit the relay when i'm building her up again..

I realize I started this thread, I must admit I like the "dual headlight" look, but for the time being I think I'll stick with the single "classic" look, perhaps in the future I'll come back to this idea.

Another alternative would be to adapt an aftermarket dual sport headlight. It should be pretty simple since they mount to the forks with big rubber bands. Acerbis has several different ones and they aren't too expensive, about $70 - $100. The Cyclops has a bit of new BMW look. You could probably trim off the number plate or just leave it as a Speed Triple type 'flyscreen'. I just ordered the DHH for $72 from Motorcyclesuperstore.com. (for the KTM...........the 8" round headlight on the GS1100 looks plenty cool.)
