A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Engine Tick

Howdy all, my engine recently started making a ticking noise as I accelerate. It sounds much like an old pushrod V8 lifter tick if you let them run low on oil. Now, at idle, the tick isnt there, nor is it there if you increase RPMs in neutral with no load on the bike. It had a bit of an exhaust leak before I changed the oil, ut I thought I had that fixed. This sounds more "metallic" than that did.

No, I havent adjusted the valves yet, mainly because this bike is my primary transportation, and I cant afford to have it down a week or worse, me screw the job up and have it down for longer (Im not very good following written directions:o)

Any chance its my former exhaust leak or am I going to have to find a way to get a valve check done? And dont get me wrong, I know it needs done regardless, I however, have little mechanical abilities and less margin for error right now.

Thanks

Lou

Just for giggles, did you put your ear to the gas tank as you slowly twist the throttle??? Thats where my V-8 pushrod tick was coming from......Rebuilt the petcock and all was good........Hope its something simple for you.....Catch ya later Eric

Exhaust leaks sometimes sound like a tic noise.

I doubt the problem is valve adjustment but you NEED to check them anyway otherwise the valves WILL (not might) burn.

Top photo shows burned valves and second photo is what the valves should look like.

is the tick at engine RPM? or is it at half time as the engine RPM?

have you checked and adjusted the chain? also a big source of noise

if you are not mechanical you need to have someone who is ride your motorcycle.

Thanks for the ideas guys, and yes its a GK, so no chain noise, unless you meant cam chain?
