    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

fairing or windshield

Hi,

The larger windshield is a Slipstreamer S-03. The smaller windshield, which I like better, is a Slipstreamer S-06 Spitfire. It offers enough protection, is less affected by crosswinds, and creates less turbulence and noise. I have it angled back so that my helmet is in clean air but my body is protected.

now i could live with that shield maybe in a light tint maybe not. and thanks for your indulgence your site is great bikecliff

also is yours mounted higher then most>? every one i have seen is closer to the headlight, or is this how you got it angled back?

I just wanted a small windshield, just to knock some of the wind off.
I purchased a Malibu from Memphis Shades, and have had a lot of compliments on how good it looks on my GS850.

Here's a pic of the shield. I'm gonna try to get some new pics of my bike this weekend and post them up.

I have a Rifle Superbike I've used for about 10 years, and it provides plenty of protection, especially since it only weighs a couple of pounds. I do sometimes find buffeting to be a problem with this bar-mounted fairing, depending on the direction of the wind, especially in a strong crossswind. I am interested in a frame-mount fairing, and bought a Windjammer SS, but think it is too big and heavy. If I could find something like the Rifle but frame-mounted, I would be interested, but haven't found anything that looks likely. I've wondered if a frame-mounted fairing off of some other bike might be a better alternative, but don't really have an idea what might work. If anyone has any suggestions, I would be very interested to hear them. Thanks.

Here's the f-15 fairing from National Cycle. I took off the viper fairing, as it vibrated and rubbed on my master cylinder. The new fairing offers me protection up to my chin. I'm 6'3", and it's enough protection for my use. The viper hit me about mid chest, for reference.

so since I'm only 5'6", the f15 shield should push it up high enough to go right over me. I'm what, 9 inches shorter than you and the tour is 4 inches taller than the sport shield. That should push the wind well up over my head. I could always adjust the rake on it some too if need be. '

I could always get the same one as you, but I'd hate to be taking all of the wind right in my forehead if it didn't push it up all the way over me. Any thoughts? And no, I do not want a fairing or anything, I had a windjammer on my bike when I first got it and I think it's ugly as sin!
 
I had that viper fairing, the cafe racer style one. It left my entire torso exposed, and I had lots of wind buffeting with that one. With the National Cycle one, I find that when it's windy, I'll get some head buffeting, but my body is still not fighting with the elements. You might find that important when you're already fighting the handlebars because of the normal highway speeds. Wind adds to it, then your body and arms can become fatigued more rapidly. With the f-15, I get very little hand protection, but there is SOME. The viper offered NONE.

For me, my head tells me what's happening around me. The 'windsail' type fairings and screens offer you very little impression of what's happening in front of you, wind-wise. I find that it could very easily give you a false sense of safety. Just my perception of that type of situation. My current fairing was for a Suzuki Bandit. I did have to change out a nut and bolt on each side to make it clamp correctly to my headlight. I had the parts sitting around, and they just needed to be a bit longer than the ones offered in the kit. I found this fairing very easy to install and maintain. Shield stands up and doesn't vibrate or bend drastically. I like.

Hello Cleveland!:) I'm not sure what you would like a pic of specifically... The viper fairing, or the fairing that is currently on my bike? The viper fairing is in the post above, it's the largest pic as posted by 'mighty13d'.

The f-15 fairing from National Cycle, is on my bike currently, and that picture is above this one as well. It's the big silver bike sittin' on my sidewalk. :)

I will have some more pics of my bike after my new paintjob is finished.:D

Hi Mr. kilog55,

You can get that Slipstreamer Spitfire in the tinted variety. I do have it mounted on top of the instrument cluster and angled back quite a bit. This position seemed more aerodynamic than having it on top of the headlight at less of an angle. The mounting hardware is so simple that you can try all kinds of positions very easily until you find a position that works for you.
