It has been discussed here, and I have a unique tool that does the trick very nicely.

Well, I have devised a way to duplicate the tool, and improve it.

get a flapper wheel, 1/2", plenty deep.

Soak it in water and freeze it. (bear with me!)

Now, carefully saw that puppy in half down the center of the flaps, making it two 1/4" flapper wheels. Stop before you hit the hub, of course.

Now you have a flapper wheel (once thawed and dried) that does both sides of a fin!

Also, for the less adventurous, I saw some nice narrow but deep polishing wheels in the Dremmel isle last weekend that would work nicely.

Another alternative is the 3m Radial disk. It is an abrasive encrusted plastic disk that comes in various diameters and grits. Depending on the base metal you can get a pretty good shine for the effort. Oh, and they last a long time too.

I recently used a gun cleaning wire brush that I cut to fit into my cordless drill, however it only does one side before its wore out.

I'll have to make one. It was an idea, seeing that my apparently irreplaceable 1/4" wheel is wearing out. I'll pop over to home Depot tomorrow and grab one, make my idea, and post the pics here.

Hmm. I can't find the dang wheels anywhere. Looks like the new fad is sandpaper on a wheel, layered at an angle, or a sewn up cotton wheel, sewn all the way to the edge.

Does no one make flapper wheels for polishing anymore? I'm gonna have a fit if i can't replace my favorite cleaning tool.

I've found flapper wheels for Dremels, at a whopping $10-12 each. You can find them at Wal-Mart or Sears.

For the larger flapper wheels and many, many more goodies, try www.supergrit.com. Some of the items are seriously high-dollar, but many of them are very affordable. I just got their catalog and my wish list is extremely long right now.

I've also seen flapper wheels of various sizes at industrial supply stores. Most were mandrel mount, but I did see a couple that fit in a drill.

Thanks! I'll try those suggestions. I want to do this now, as my flapper is not reaching all the way in any more. Worn out....
