    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

float height question

hi guys,

when measuring float height with the "carbs off upside down method", the floats seem to "preload" the needle valve spring, this is the height i measure, correct? thanks!!

The floats should be touching the springs, but the springs should be stiff enough to not sag a measureable amount. If the springs do get compressed, tilt the carbs up at an angle so the weight of the float does not compress the spring and measure again.

...and replace those crappy aftermarket needles with OEM parts ASAP.
 
My OE needles sag a little on my VM carb 550. Tips look go so they stayed in. No problems so far...

I posted about 10 days ago regarding the exact same thing. I've never noticed it with OEM needle valves but it was very apparent with the after-market ones that came on my GS1100.

Brian instructed me to order OEM needle valves....and I did!:-D (I wish the damn things weren't so expensive!!:()
 
well, i doubt they are aftermarket, i didnt put them in and i really doubt the po did. but where did you get the oem ones? not at bike bandit....and how expensive we talkin here? i mean, cheaper than a new motorcycle (i suppose) but....

I just took a quick look but I think the OEM number is 13370-18111. If you shop around, you can find 4 of them for about $100. It's about the most expensive carb part you'll likely ever buy but it is important and will likely not wear out if you care for the carbs properly.

I don't know why they don't show up on Bike Bandit but their schematics are terrible and you can find better prices.
