A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hello and thanks in advance for any help you can offer on my 83 GS1100E

So I am getting this fluttering in all the indicator lights and the headlamp and stop lamp are pretty much a constant and sometimes go off. Although there is nothing at all wrong with the headlight or brake light the indicators are always off and on. Sometimes you are just cruising and all the lights flash and flutter and then they are off. Any clues about where to look for the problem? I have already take indicator panel apart and I do not see that there is any loose wires or anything going on in there. Where else to look?

Thanks again!

3 possibilities.

1 bad battery, allowing allot of AC to pass through it easily.

2 Bad Regulator Rectifier or stator or both.

3 Aftermarket device designed to do just that to make you more visible.

Hi,

Take off the tank, seat, and side covers. Disconnect the battery. Check to make sure all of the connections in the entire wiring harness are clean and solid. Clean the fuse box too. Take the headlight out of the headlight bucket and do the same for all of the connections in there. Then put everything back together and test the charging system. Do Mr. posplayr's QUICK TEST first. If a problem is indicated, go through The Stator Papers for more in-depth troubleshooting.

Are your lights actually flickering ON and OFF? Which ones?

Just before my stator goes totally ka-put, my indicator lights and headlight will sometimes pulsate, get dimmer and brighter, but they would never go totally off and on. As the battery would discharge, eventually the blinkers would "flicker" when I used them, until they wouldn't work at all any more because the battery was almost dead. They would just stay on, dimly, until I either charged the battery or fixed my charging system. But the blinkers wouldn't "flicker" or "pulsate" if I wasn't using them.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

Well, I have to thank NICLPNUT for your post because I ordered the part referenced in the thread and BAM!, she is up and running with no lights of any kind now. First time in a couple of years that I have seen a clear dash on this puppey. I am super glad. The part was cheap and easy to install. Thanks again to all GS Resources members! Your help is truly invaluable.

On the GS1100EZ/ED there is something called a check panel control box. Look at the schematic. It is what controls all of the idiot lights in the dash. It is about the size of a pack of cigarettes with about 15 wires coming off. It is directly below the rear of the gas tank.

I would check and make sure that the connector is tight, or see if the unit is bad. Only way to do that is swap it out for a good one.

EDIT: I see you fixed it, but you should be aware of the above mentioned module as well.
