78' 1000. I'm changing the fork oil with the forks on the bike (I've got one of the older fork braces on the bike and it is a real PITA to take it off and especially to put it back on or else I would have just taken them off). I've read lots of threads and know that the 'amount' is not as important as the 'same amount' in both forks. I know the stock measurement is 140mm. The thing I need clarification on is the fact that the forks are at an angle while on the bike. The clymers manual state "you will need to lift the rear end to straighten the front forks"...ummm, I would have to use a winch from the ceiling to get the back end high enough to make the front forks straight. So what do you guys do when the forks are on the bike to measure the fluid? Just in case it's a factor the bike has progressive springs up front.
