My 80 1000G has a oil consumption addiction, but I have learned to live with it, it don't smoke but it still uses some, about a half qt every 6-7 hundred miles. If you love something, sometimes you have to learn to live with the addiction's.Get you an old furnace blower fan and wire it to the high speed wire. Sit it on a milk crate and wire it to the crate. Stick it right in front of the jugs and let it rip. This is an excellent source of plenty of air to let it run for a good long time without any worries of overheating. I would let itm run a good 20 minutes or so and then shut her down...well after it has stopped smoking.
If it sits a wweek or so after that and the seals are bad, she will most likely smoke again for a few minutes upon restarting. This will at least give you an indication. Now the question is this..is it using oil at an alarming rate or just needs a few ounces now and then.
