    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Frame Painting - Line-X or Rhino Tough

I was just watching monster garage, they painted a rock climbing truck body with this Line -X sprayable pickup box liner stuff. One of the new trucks at work have the bed sprayed with this stuff, the stuff looks great and is as hard as a rock it looks bullet proof. What do you think about this stuff for a GS frame? Any feedback!

I think maybe srivett2 could have used it last winter for rust proofing on his frame while ridding his 400 in a Toronto winter! 8O 8O :lol: :lol: :lol:
 
It's pretty heavy, I bet it adds 15 lbs to the frame, but bullet proof is right. That stuff is durable and would be good for a frame.
 
I used a Herculiner kit on the interior of my Jeep, it is a little thinner consistancy than the others, cheaper, and very durable. I think yo can buy it by the pint, and it can be sprayed.

I also bought a Herculiner kit (which I haven't used yet), and I know Menards sells it both as a kit and in pint and possibly gallon cans. If you go to their website (www.herculiner.com) there are many pages (with pictures) of some radical different ways the product has been used. It looks to be a pretty good product and I'm looking forward to using it in several different ways.

Line-X is the way to go. It can be applied as thin as 1/8th inch thick. It is not real heavy after it cures, although it will outweigh paint if your trying to shave grams. Line-X will stick to anything except plastic quite tenaciously, and carries a lifetime guarantee. If you get a nick in it, they will respray that spot for free.

Rhino lining offers all the same stuff however, Rhino Liner is very thick and heavy and has a "grippy" feel to it when cured. It tears easier than Line-X and picks up and holds onto dirt quite well.

Line_x has a very unique finish. Its bumpy but still kinda shiny. It's very hard to the touch and extremely tough. I would recommend it highly for a frame or anything else you want protected.

I don't sell the stuff or anything, but I use it quite a bit to cover speaker cabinets. I have 6 single 18" subs and 2 horn loaded JBL cabinets sprayed with it. They are holding up to some serious abuse quite well. I'm about to build some more subs this summer and will have them sprayed as well. I love the stuff. :D

I liked the shine this stuff had the most(Line-X), I was also looking into a hammered finish powder coat. For the amount of frame on our GS's that is exposed I think it will look pretty cool. No more scratched down tubes from pulling the header on and off.

Now price wise, powder coating has gone up alot due to it's availability and market demand.

To spray a frame with Line-X.............any ideas.....I think it is only a couple of hundred bucks for a pick-up bed.

Further investigation needed!

If this stuff can last on PA cabinets, it must be good! I'm in the same buisness as HiSPL, & I've seen what happens to speaker cabinets after a few months of regular use. Even the best cabinets start to look bad after a few months on the road.

Gerry: It's the chrome you have to worry about, the frame did really well. :wink: The chain also takes a beating and you have to change the oil every 20-30 hours.
