A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hello electrical gurus, i have a question about my 77gs 550. There is a on/off switch for the headlights but it actually doesn't turn them off. I've checked my stator and it is perfect, but when I have the switch up (on?) it overcharges my battery, if down the battery is fine and doesn't overcharge. I do think my regulator is shot though, and have ordered a new one to replace. Unfortunately i ordered a elctrosport after reading all the info on the test page, not realizing that they are not recommended (should probably say that on the page) I assumed they were decent if on the website. Not sure what is going on any ideas? Also not electrical but I have uni pods and a filter on the oil breather hose. There seems to be an abundance of oil coming out of it, is this normal. The oil level is not overfilled and is good. Thanks for any help

If you measured battery voltages over 15v then I would say the r/r is shot as it is not regulating. That being the case a new r/r is in order but not the electro sport. You can keep kicking the can down the road or follow the recommendations for a series r/r. It will solve your problem plus those yo are not awRe of and be cheaper than the electro sport.

read gs stator in my signature.

Figured that regulator was gone, but what is the headlight switch do, and why does it limit charging. Battery is fine after 1.5hr ride with it off at 13.1v

Is this a new Quicker Quick test?

The headlamp switch is a ganged switch that opens a pair of stator legs on bikes with a switch. If you open a pair of legs, you get less power out.

Somebody must have played with his DPST headlight switch since his headlight ain't turning off as it should.Odd that he still gets enough stator output to keep things above 13 volts with stator loop open- he must keep revs up to compensate.

it doesn't go above 12.4v when idling but at 5000rpm its about 13.4-8 I rode home today with it off and checked battery when shut off bike and it was at 13.1 I cruise at about 120kph and it's about 5800rpm When i rode to work other day checked battery after ride with headlight switch on and battery was at 15v which is obviously bad. I'll get a series regulator but still not sure why switch changes the charging.

".... I'll get a series regulator but still not sure why switch changes the charging."

As posplayr said , it open cicuits one stator phase , reducing output substantially, so your failed R/R can't overcharge things.Spending $75 on series unit is nice upgrade .
