    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

front brake signal

quick question. I have my 79'GS850 that is missing its front brake signal underneath the front brake handle on the handle bar. I've looked at a couple of online sites for a new one (they seem incredibaly cheap at under $10) but they don't show too much and none show a cable or anything. I'm worried I'm missing something looking online. Can someone tell me exactly what I should have and where is the best place to get it and if any year will fit my bike. A fellow GS'r has one but wants $50, is that reasonable?...thanks in advance.

Don't replace it with OEM ...
They are fiddley and don't really work too well.
Search the threads here, and you will find many complaining about them.

I have cleaned and adjusted mine several times.
After all that, it often doesn't come on for light application of the front brakes, and will still sometimes stick on with the brakes off. :mad:

Replace your banjo bolt with one with a built in hydraulicly actuated switch instead.

Like these.

Doesn't have to be from that store or by that manufacturer.
All the online merchants have one or more by various manufacturers.
Search for "banjo switch"or "brake switch".

Just make sure you get the right thread size.
Assuming an original master cylinder you probably need 10mm x 1mm

If there is 1 banjo coming off the bolt you need the cheaper one (PBL992-31CH)

If you upgraded to dual brake lines (with 2 banjos at the banjo bolt) then you need the expensive one (which has room for two banjos) (PBL993-31CH)

One thing I forgot to mention. Installing it will mean draining, replacing, and bleeding the front brake fluid.

But you do that bit of required maintenance every year or two anyway ... Right ??? ... :D

P.S. when you order it, order new banjo bolt crush washers too, to ensure a leak free seal.
