A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Hello All,

First a quick update on my progress...
This weekend, wifey went away so it was me and the 9 months triplets and 7 years old big sister... not much got done on the bike (I was able to finish cleaning carb #2). I will try to get the carbs done this week... the weather is getting nice and I just want to ride.....:D

Now the question regarding the front fork.... will a 1981 GS 650 GL front fork fit my 1981 GS 650 G ? I have to replace the oil seals and some other seals on mine but might be able to get my hands on the 81 GL set.... so I just swap them and work on my old one later (I guess I would have two sets)
Would it fit?
Thanks.

OH how I feel your pain (with the trips) I have a set of twins (girls) and though things have gotten better over the years, they are still a handful!

As to your question, I would think the forks "should" interchange though, not having done it myself, I'll make no promises. :o

I also have twin girls, no fun:(. You have my sympathy:).

As for your bike, yes a set of 650gL forks will fit but the L is set up for a single, larger brake rotor while your g should have twin disks. Just get a set of seals and some fresh oil and replace the leaking seals.

What.... twins aren't fun???? well triplets are... I think you meant - A LOT of work - of course they are fun
Regarding the fork... you are correct... now that I am looking at the pics from the gl... there is only one side that is equipped for the breaks... that means it will not work.
I have the seals/gasket for mine... I will make the changes....
Thanks much... this is why I love this forum... :D
