    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

fwy wobble

i picked up a nice 84 gs 1150 es about 3 weeks ago. it already had new metzler tires front and back.
so yesterday i was on the fwy and noticed a tire wobble at all speeds. not a good feeling. i also hade a new 750 honda that did this many years ago. it only does it when they cut rain groves in the concret. as soon as i get on regular pavement it is gone at all speeds. i suspect it is the tread design causing the problem. this is the first bike i owned that does this in a long time.
i do not think it is a steering head bearing or alignment problem. those tires are new and if that is the reason i will live with it. the shake at fwy speed is not real bad but it makes you not enjoye the ride.
has somebody else felt the same wabble on rain groves.
 
My Continental RB2 does the same thing on rain grooves or a metal bridge, but no time other than that. The Conti has ribs that run the circumference of the tire, and they hunt when riding over anything that has a longitudinal pattern. If you get this on non-grooved roads, it's not the same effect.
 
If it's only doing it on grooved pavement I don't think it's the bike. No matter what tire I've ever run grooved pavement will make my bike react that way.
 
The small 16" front tire can agravate any handeling problems. Need to do the usuall things Rear wheel alignment, steering stem torque (doesn't matter how it feels), tire wear, tire balance etc
 
i picked up a 84 gs1150 this year and it handles kinda spooky in grooved pavment, but not too bad the rest of the time . i think the suspension is too soft and if you have any play in the axle brgs., swing arm bushing or rear shock mount bushings it will make it worse.as far as your vibration goes have the tires and rims ballanced . good luck
 
When they grind the pavement down, and leave the grooves your bike tends to follow the grooves, some tires do this more than others, but I find as long as I don't decellerate and keep a relaxed posture the bike wants to go in a straight line and will as long as you don't fight it.
 
Tighten down the triple tree. It's the center bolt in the center behind the handle bar clamps. Try a quarter turn at a time.
