DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

HI, fairly new to this forum, this is my third post i believe. Just bought a gs400 from my brother. Its a 1980, and it purrs like a kitten. It is quite banged up tho, appearance wise, it has no side covers, the gas tank is severly scratched, duct tape on the seat, and the fenders have dents, but what more can you ask for for 200 CDN bones. anyways, i was wondering, any pointers out there? for parts, should i try a salvage or a wrecker, are their sites out there that can give me new OEM parts? and the gas tank, how can i repaint it, and lastly, and most importantly, the seat. do i have to buy a new seat, or somehow can i get it reupholstered? sorry for all the q's but i looked around and it seems like some of you instead of being put in a bed when you were born, were sat on a GS. any and all help would be apreciated. thanks.

The seat is a toughy, if the seat pan is in good shape, just take it to an upholsterers. There's a decent one in East Van, Victoria and the Kingsway.

For most parts, try ebay, but also there's a couple of decent salvage places in the GVRD - Bent Bike on the Langley By-pass has lots of side covers and stuff, the prices are a bit high though.

It's not easy finding parts in Vancouver, but they are out there.

The other thing is to check online for parts. Ron Ayers and Bikebandit.

Hope this helps.

Re: Getting parts for a gs400

For the seat, I'd echo Satchmo, you can get it re-upholstered and it'll look like new as long as the pan's intact.

For the gas tank, there's a how-to article on the gsresources site for a low cost approach to a nice paint job. Here's the url: http://www.thegsresources.com/garage/gs_repaint.htm

It might not be a factory finish but from your description, it'll look a whole lot nicer! 8O

Side covers might be a problem. they're had to find used and the oem are quite pricey. Expect $60-75 per side.

With the fenders, you might have better luck at a salvage yard than the side covers. But to buy oem won't be cheap either. If you're handy, you can tap out the dents and paint them. No longer chrome, but a nice gloss or matte black depending on your preference would be nice. Or the same colour as your gas tank.

If you do a search of the forum, I think the details of how to paint chrome were talked about a while back.

hope this helps...Sam
