    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

GS 1150 tires???

I put 50k miles on my 1150. I ran a 120 size bias front and a 130 bias rear.
That was the best handling/riding combination. I also ran a 120 bias on the front with a 140 radial on the rear. It was kind of a squirrel at times with that combination. I think 140 is pinched in too much and adversely effects the handling. I wasnt fond of the 140 and I would not recommend it. Also, a 140 will only leave you about 1/8" clearance to the swingarm on each side of the tire. I will not buy any tire that has a centerline groove. They follow cracks in the road too easily for my liking and I positively hate them for crossing grated bridges. :)

I'd recommend staying away from the BT-45 front. Its a horrible tire. I really liked the bias Michelin Macadam 110/90/16. Out back I'm running a Dunlop 205 radial 140/80/17. It does seem a bit pinched on a 3'' rim, but I have one on my Katana with a 3.5'', and it fits nice.

The Dunlop feels sure footed and the Michelin made the bike feel more nimble and I felt more aware of what the front was doing. I can't say that for the BT-45. It feels vague and unstable.

I tried a Sport Demon out back and found it had a lot of grip, but the ride quality was noticeably harsher than a radial Dunlop or Metzler. The Metzler MEZ2 which is no longer available.

I tried a set of BT45's on the 1150. They were worn down to cords in 1200 miles. LOL shortest lived tires I ever bought.

I tried Sport Demons also. I spent more time fishtailing sideways than I ever have on any other tire. They had all the grip of a greased banana skin. I know a lot of people like them, but they were by far the worst handling tire I ever bought. They were so bad, I would not ride the bike if the roads were even slightly damp. Damn things slid out from under me with almost no lean at all in the rain.

The Dunlop 205 140 radial had decent traction, but I never felt it really settled down to precisely predictable on the 1150. I was never sure if it was going to grip or go squirrel on me.
The bias Metzler was a big improvement in handling predictability.

I ended up staying with the Metzlers.

I still live by my dunlop qualifier front, and dunlop 208 sportmax rear....both radials and both VERY sticky/dependable.

I currently have the Roadrider front and SuperVenom rear on my OEM wheels and I HATE the ride with a passion.....as soon as my forks get here for the GSXR conversion, I'll be riding on the Dunlops in comfort and style again!

I do 40 miles of canyon riding every day commuting to work and these AVONS have to go!! Anyone looking for a practically new set? 100/90-16 front roadrider and 120/90-18 SuperVenom rear.......I'm going to sell them for BEST OFFER!

The rear wheel is going on this next week! so the SuperVenom could be had soon!.....I'll post in the for sale forum Tuesday.
 
bt45s are very short lived, worn out on the back and cupped so bad on the front it vibrated like crazy. Macadam's were too greasy-- in the rain especially.
Im back with metzler now just put them on we'll see how they work..... In the end spitfires are probably as good as anything.
 
Hey Guys...
Thanks for all the imput...every bike seems to have a tire that works well and some that don't. I'd like to try a set of radials...I'll start looking at the ones Salty Monk mentioned. If all else fails...I've been happy with the spitfires on my CB...they work well with that chassis.
I'll keep you posted...Still a little away from being on the road...paint work is gonna take a while with the three color pearlescent...Frame and mechanicals looking great though!
