A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

gs 850 carb help needed please

First turn the darned screws IN till they are 2 out from gently seated and start there. It may still stumble and have a crappy idle at that point but thats OK. Adjust the screws at 1/8 turn intervals and see if its an improvement or is worse. If they egt all the way to say 1 turn out and its still for crap then thats telling you its even too lean for the adjustments on the screws to be of any use.

So, if the screws cant get it leaned out..then youre being told by the bike that its down below. Start with going lower in the pilot jets and mains.

All this is exactly why so many of us preach to make it stock and leave it that way. All the "lets make it look cool and sound bas azz " mods effectively makes these bikes a useless exercise and waste of time and money.

... I was trying to get it going without trashing the work I had done
attachment.php

Rather impressive, and the first time I have seen something like that.

Probably because it seems to be counter-productive. :-k

As the air rushes by those pipes, they will be drawing a vacuum, trying to suck the air out of the carbs.
Most people want to stuff more air INTO the carbs.

They should work OK while sitting still, but going down the road will be another matter entirely.

Looks good, but that does not mean it will work well.

Chuck I will heed your instructions, had this been my build and not a basket case I can assure you there would be many more stock parts on this namely the airbox for starters. I am 55 yrs old and this is not my style but have to see it thru.
There is a second bike that was part of the deal and rest assured I have already been on ebay for the missing parts

chuck I was away,
Did what you said two turns in on the mixture screws and the idle is crappy but runs a little bit better 1/8 throttle then it stumbles,
Should I drop the needle down a groove ?
