A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

GS1000 engine in GS1100 frame, easily doable?

I have a spare GS 1000 engine with 14k on it, and I'm wondering how involved it is to transplant the engine into a GS 1100 frame. I have a GSXR 1100 front end, wheels, and brakes, along with a GS 1100 swingam, (and a spare GS 1000 harness) which I've been planning to install on my GS 1000. But I have a line on a GS 1100 frame, and I'm thinking of building a bike. How much fabrication of motor mount plates, etc. would this install take? Thanks in advance for any advice you might have.

I did the other way around 1100 in a 1000 frame

get the rear bolted up and mark the front frame tubes.. on a scale of 1~10 it is a 4

Sorry, I've got to ask. What are we marking on the front frame tubes for??? Only problem I had, puting GS1100 "E" eng. into a GS1000 "C" &"S", was to relocate the motormount under the gearshift.

I put a 1000 motor into an 1100 frame. '83 I think. Everything matched up except for the left front motor mount. I had to cut it and weld a piece in the middle to extend it a bit to reach the motor.

I had no problems with the front mounts, I had to mix & match the mounts form both the 1100 & 1000. Used some from both. Fronts worked fine, but none of them would match up with the mount under the shift lever. I chose to move the mounting point on the frame foreward appx. 1". May have been easier to fabricate a mounting plate that would fit. Neither should be a big problen.
