DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Newbie here. I just bought a GS1000E and I need a gas tank. The 2 that came with the bike are rusted out. One has 2 holes and the other has a liner that is peeling. Are there any other years that would fit my bike other than 1979? Any other models maybe? I heard someone say that a GS850 tank would fit, but you'd have to pound the underside to fit. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Any year 1000 E through 1980 will fit. The 1980/81 750E or 1100E "may" fit, I can check when I get home. The frames look the same in that area. It would look goofy as the tank shapes are far different but it might work. The later 1100 G will not fit, I don't believe any G model will fit correctly.

You holes can probably be fixed, how bad are they?

77-79 750 will fit as well. I recently saw a 1000E with a 750B/C tank on it, no modification was needed. Will look a little more "period correct" than an 1100 tank, IMO...

The tank was sandblasted and they poked 3 holes in it. The whole tank is rusty inside and out. If I had the skills and tools to fix it, I would. But, since I have to pay for it, too much money to spend on something that is not in the best of shape. Trying to find something that is not discontinued but I doubt that will happen. Found a new tank, but they want $700.

"L" tank...may not work.
also is a G model. Does not look like the same shape tank as my 78 GS1000E

sorry, hit the 8 instead of the 9 key. I meant to say that is does not look like the tank on my 79 GS 1000E

After I posted my last response, I found his thread. Already sent a PM to him. Hope it's still available. Thanks for the link.

I have a '78 GS 1000 e with an 1100 tank on it..Doesnt look goofy at all, in fact it looks pretty much like Tom MLC's '80 model. The side panels and hecktail are different, but has a similar shape.
