    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

GS1000G airfilter box end seals

Just took the ends off my airbox. The seals are horrendously distorted and were kind of glued in place (well, partly in place).

I can get a new air filter (for a shocking ?45+) but I can't track down the end seals, which seem pretty essential to me.

I really want to keep it stock and don't want to get into messing around with re-jetting for K&Ns etc.

Can anyone advise me on whether these end seals are available anywhere? Preferably in UK but I'f be willing to buy from US if absolutely necessary.
 
Your photo/s don't work Sean - do they show how to apply the stuff you mean? Any chance of sending the photo/s again, maybe in a different format?

I've been looking all over Ebay plus every Suzuki parts place I can find online, and I can't find anything. I don;t even know whether these seals were ever supplied as individual parts - the parts book I downloaded doesn't even show them! If some kind of fix using stuff from a hardware shop will do, that would be great.

Search the archives. There is at least a dozen threads here about people replacing airbox and air filter frame foam with self adhesive urethane weatherstrip foam.
 
Could you give a clue as to how to do that search? If I type "GS1000G air box sealing" into the general search box at upper right of screen, it comes up with a massive list of irrelevant threads. I'm never any good with searches. What should I type? And where? Is there an archive section I haven't stumbled across?

Use "Advanced search"

Type "weatherstrip" in the search box (also try "foam", "airbox seal", etc)

Toggle "titles only"

Read.

Thanks Oldvet and Nessism - just the info I needed. Searches mystify me - maybe I type too much into them? Whatever, they never seem to produce what I was hoping for!
 
You hit the nail on the head, keep the searches simple. Air box returns nothing, airbox returns all sorts of hits so it is also how members reference things.

Agree on learning how to search. Being self sufficient is good. Having to wait for someone else to search for you is bad.

Like I said, thanks for your help. I've been on the other end on british bike forums and if I've been able to point newbies in the right direction I've been glad to do so. I haven't tried to make them feel bad about it.
 
I hope you don't think Nessism was trying to make you feel bad. Look at his post count. He has been helping people along with these bikes for longer than you or I have probably been interested in fixing our own motorcycles. That's saying something for me anyway because I'm pushing 68 and just decided to start fixing my own bike five or six years ago. The forum experts have answered the same questions hundreds or thousands of times and all the resources are available to be searched by anyone on the site. I will have to admit hand holding has it's appeal but not all projects are worth a walk through, that would be a quick path to burn out. I did restore a basket case from what I learned here and ended up with a real nice bike thanks to the likes of Nessism and many others. One thing though pictures and followups are required. That helps teach others to solve their own problems.
