GS1150ES oil pan gasket

I took the oil pan off and in the process destroyed the original gasket. Went to local bike shop that has a gasket cutting machine and they had the CD for the GS1150ES. Bought the gasket they made. Installed it. Leaks like hell! I looked at a parts fiche for the bike and it shows TWO different pan gaskets and it says that they supersede the others.

My Question: How do I know if I am getting the correct gasket? I don't want to do this job anymore! (The gasket they cut for me appeared to be a perfect fit)

Looking forward to any help.

Thanks,

George

The superceded part numbers are usually just upgrades to the material Suzuki used to make the gaskets, not changes in shape. But someone with more specific 1150 knowledge would probably know for sure.

If the gasket appears to fit (assuming you have an 1150), it could be made from about anything and still work fine. I've heard of people making gaskets from grocery bags that worked fine, and I did this myself once for a car transmission.

Is the oil pan cracked anywhere? Are the bolts the proper lengths and installed in the correct holes?

I'm wondering if you have, for example, a couple of 30mm bolts installed in holes meant for 25mm bolts. Or something like that. The bolts would feel tight, but they would leave the oil pan loose.

Does the gasket interfere with the oil pickup -- maybe it's getting pulled out of the way? Just another thought.

Is all the old gasket off the engine and the pan?

All of the sump screws are the same length and they all went in fine. I was careful about old gasket material. BUT........the gasket they made for me had a fold-type crimp in one place and the sticky side had a place where the sticky had pulled off leaving the rough paper exposed. I was in a hurry (I know:oops:) and decided to just use it and put Three Bond on both sides .

Thanks for your thoughtful replies! This is a great forum.

George
