    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I found diagram on another forum. I believe it's for a gs450. I've got an 80 gs250t. Will this diagram work on my bike?
 
I've looked at the diagram there but I'm having a hard time figuring out what components i have to keep and which ones i can ditch. I just want the electrical components i need to run and charge the bike plus a head and tail light. Would the set up in this diagram work for my bike?
 
I can't see your drawing-downloads too small but for what it's worth, your 250 has very similar wiring to the 450.
The original wiring is already pretty simple and only has a single fuse... Does Your idea involve dropping the brakelight ? That's not a good idea, imo.... and turn signals? mmm maybe, but wear white gloves at night . Sitting at a busy intersection with your left arm out does not sound too good for taking advantage of a break in traffic-you'd have to be sitting there in Neutral... but no blinkers would be fine if you are out in the country, I guess.
 
Ok well that's good news. No I'm planning on keeping the brake light. The diagram has the brake light switch in there as well. Sorry about the picture quality. I'm posting all this from my phone.
 
Right on. Thanks for that link. I wish i still had the stock harness, but the PO cut it to pieces and destroyed a lot of the parts in the process. But oh well, i wanted to learn how to make my own harness, anyways.

Start by listing ALL the parts you want to keep. It gets more complicated than a lot of the `simplified' diagrams you see since the complexity adds up quickly if you want to have things like headlight switches, brake light switches, etc and it also depends on what the particular switches/controls are. My quick list from what you've described:

Charging:
- R/R
- Stator
- Battery

Ignition:
- Ignition switch/main power switch
- Fuse
- Signal Generator
- Ignitor
- Spark Plugs
- Coils

Starting:
- Kill Switch
- Starter Button
- Starter Relay
- Starter Motor

Lights:
- Headlight (On/off/hibeam or always on as in the diagram you pictured)
- Taillight
- Stop lamp
- Front brake switch
- Rear Brake switch

Indicators:
- Oil Pressure switch (you should at least have this one)
- Neutral switch


Then it's (kind of) a matter of just making sure everything has the correct paths to and from the battery. I draw all the `systems' separately first then combine them into one.
