A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

GS250t not running well after oil change and valve check?

Help needed.
I have a 1980 GS250t. no mod’s all stock.
Has 2 BS30SS carbs.

I was running good, then…
I thought I would give it a spring oil change and check the valve clearance (no shims on this).
Now it starts with full choke, runs up to 5000 rpm, slowly comes down and dies.
I tried to ride it when the idle was ok, then it has no power and dies.

Sometimes it will idle at 1200, then a blip of gas to 2500 rpm then it goes back to 5000.
I have cleaned the carbs (twice), replaced the O-rings (from cycleorings.com)
Replaced the intake O rings (from cycleorings.com), the intake boots look good.
Stock air filter.
New fuel line.

Bench sync’d the carbs. Looked ok.

Thank you.

Did you adjust your valve clearances in inches or millimeters?

Is the new fuel line kinked?

Did this happen before or after you cleaned your carbs?

I cleaned the carbs after I started it up from the valves check, thinking maybe that was the issue.
Inches. .003 I think. I did check the gage to the manual.
No knik.

So this problem surfaced after the valve adjustment (but before carb fiddling), leading you to the carb work? I'd go back to valve check and doublecheck that cam lobes were in right spot and clearances were in spec.

The crazy idle makes me suspicious of an intake boot o-ring....does robert sell them for this carb boot? I'd remove one boot and check that the o-ring clearly "stands" above boot flange so it seals well against cylinder head.
