DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

GS300L - Am I insane?

if you do happen to find another CDI box, i would jump on it. That box is like the magic part for that model of bike. There will almost always be somebody to come along and buy it so if things dont work out with the title, you can always just get your money back for it:)

Hmm engine is alot like my gsx250s, wonder if they have the same part your after?

I just cross referenced the igniter on the Zedder cross reference program that I have and ; GS300 igniter
82 GS300L
83 GS300L
85 GS300L
these are the only models listed for this igniter
part# 32900-11910

Mine ends in 44410, just went out and checked. My bike wasnt released in the states apparently.

Hi everyone!

I'm finally back and have the title in hand! Woo hoo!

I also obtained a gs300 ignitor off of ebay.

Now I need to pick up a battery and install the ignition.

So my question now is... Should I have the engine rebuilt first or should I go ahead and change the oil, plugs, and give it a crank?

When the bike is in gear and you move it along you can hear compression in the engine but I have no idea when the last time it was run or if it will.

I just don't want to cause any unnecessary damage if possible.

Are there particular things I should examine or do before trying to start such an old and unknown engine?

Thanks!

I would prep it and give it a shot.

Nice to see another 300L around here :)

As long as it's not seized and not full of fuel due to a dodgy fuel tap then I'd probably give her a go.

If you're unsure about cam timing then maybe whip the valve cover off and double check that... you can always do a valve clearance check while you're in there too...

Start her up !!!!! These bikes WANT to run !!!!!!

Of course, drain any nasty fuel and put in fresh. Make sure there's oil in the engine and a fully charged battery and give her a go !!!!!! :)

Nothing new at the moment other than acquiring plugs, oil, filter and a gas tank off eBay. I'll need to get a fuel petcock for it or take it off the tank I already have. I still need to get the battery and I was thinking of spending some money and getting the Shorai lithium battery. I just don't feel like dealing with the lead acid kind. I bought a copy of the GS300L manual at the AMA swap meet this summer and just scanned it this weekend. I need to ask BassCliff if he would like to post it on his site. I'm busy this weekend and next but I'm dying to get started. I just wish I had an attached garage or a heated one. Thanks for asking!
