    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

GS450a no electrical power!

hi everyone, ive been lurking around here since i bought my gs450a. i've been trying to search for more info on this vehicle was hoping you guys could help. my bike recently crapped out on me. long story short, it has no power coming in when i switch the ignition on, no lights or anything. i tried switching out the battery with a new one but nothing (maybe not compatible battery?), i tried charging the old battery and hooking it up, now there still nothing. im afraid maybe something fried? im lost peeps! help me! i want to get out riding again! thanks

oh also i had a crank, no start situation.
 
thank you for the info, got a DMM and started testing wires, found that the wire with the fuse was frayed and power wasnt going to the ignition switch.

as for the crank no start, i dumped the gas that was in the carbs. filled her up with gas - primed - voila started up again. now to address the issue of her bogging out..lol

So, I just ran into the same problem today. Rode the GS450A to work this morning after having it sit for over a week. Everything fine, even took the long route. After work, I turned the key, a fraction of a second with light, then NADA. Had to get it towed back home.

The battery is fine. Ground wire is grounded. Fuse is ok. So, my next guess is either a broken connection or the ignition switch.

Is the frayed wire the red one with the fuse? Was it easy to test the continuity to the switch? If so, any advice? Or do I have to start removing some things?

The reason I think it is the switch is because one day the bike had buzzing a clicking noises while off. It stopped after I rotated and juggled the key a few times, but I suspect either the switch or some minor short.

PS. Already worked on the charging system last year, replacing the old one with a heavier Honda R&R. Battery is less than a year old.

Sounds like a power distribution problem. Consider a SSPB to improve that.
