A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I have a 1982 GS450GA suzuki Matic

I got this bike in working condition , I restored it and put it back together but ijust cant get it to spark
checked all wiring , put a new plugs, plug wires, coils, stator /generator , Battery , and still not sparking I dropped the CDI while i was restoring it so Im wondering if i damaged it or not !!

The CDI for this Bike Reads 32900-44510 BB 1207 , I bought a CDI 81-83 but it reads 32900-44420 BB 1214 , installed it and still no spark , something unique is when i press the start button i see no spark but when i release the start button i see two sparks and that's it .

My question to you is do you think the CDI that i bought would work with my Bike even if it has different numbers? I don't understand why ONLY 1982 GS450GA has its own specific CDI

the only thing left to change is the rectifier my question is would the bike not spark if the rectifier is bad ?

I really need your help , the bike is been sitting for sometime and i want to get it to run

Thanks in advanc

Sounds like something is not plugged Into the right place. What is happening with the start button is the clue. You get spark but not at the right time. You have done allot of work, go over it all over again. It wouldn’t be the first time something might have been missed. Does not really answer your question....so imho the cdi is good, there is a way to check it, you might ask that question as well.

I think the one you bought is some kind of clone-replacement for the original. From a lookup online, some say It's supposed to work on your bike (450GA and other 450s etc..) That said, I don't have a 450GA and you're right- I don't see it officially listed on my goto parts fiche as a replacement. Your OEM igniter seems to be unique. Stranger things have happened. It's an uncommon bike. Always was.

Plus,...if it's second hand that's a chance and dropping it won't help. You might even need to find a wiring diagram for it to double check that your wiring is correct.
Your problem may be elsewhere too-in the kill switch wiring etc but it's unlikely the fault is at the rectifier. anyways, you don't actually need the rectifier connected to run the bike-It'll run on just the battery for awhile before going dead.

At the very least, ensure it is well grounded. And be sure your battery is charged up when starting.
