    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

GS750L Rectifier/Regulator

Over the years I have had a repeating problem with the rectifier / regulator failing.I've replaced it a total of 4 times with the average life of each unit at about 2 years. It has failed in the open position, and in the closed position. It is my understanding that a selenium rectifier can be modified with (4) diodes on a terminal strip for less than $5. I've also heard that if the charging system is being over drawn (halogen headlight) it could cause the repeating problem.What I want to know is the following:

1. Will the homemade diode board fix work for this bike?

2. Are there any more reliable aftermarket upgrades available?
 
A couple posters on this board have come up with home-brewed solutions. However, for the time and effort required to chase down the parts, then to build it, I would probably stick to buying a replacement. Popular replacements include Electrex for new parts and Honda regulators from eBay for used.

Do a search on this forum for rectifier regulator. More than a few discussions on this topic. A couple of members have constructed their own R/R's. I think one of the main causes of failure is overheating of the unit, which can be traced to a bad ground. Many people here have their R/R ground wire directly connected to the battery.
 
Check ebay for a r/r from a late model suzuki with fuel enjection. Mine came from a gsxr 600. I got fed up and mounted it on the chrome piece under the headlight. It stays cool now.
