I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Gs850-1000-1100G Final drive (diff) Raitos

Don
Could you tell me with both your 850 and 1100 doing 60mph what are the rpms of each bike?
Thanks

The internal ratios may be different; however, all final drives fit all shafties. In other words, a newer low-ratio final drive will retrofit an older GS850G; an older GS1000G drive will fit a 1984 GK just fine.

Nick

I want to make sure I have all of this right. I would certainly like a taller ratio for my 1100 and possibly even for my 850.

All GS shafties except 1984 and later 1983 1100 models (G and GK?) have the the same final drive gear.

The 1984 1100 gear can directly replace the the gear in all of the other models to give them overall taller gearing (higher speed for a given rpm).

Those 1984 1100 gears (2.90) are not all that available; some effort and diligence may be required to find one.

Am I right that the 2.90 gear is on ALL 1984 1100G models, not just the GK?

I propose a deal:

My nifty 1984 GS1100GK final drive, the newer one with the more advantageous gear ratio for high-speed riding, in exchange for yours, off any GS850G, 1000G, or 1100G ...

...plus $1000...

...plus freight.

He, he...
Nick

That's right, Don, they're hard to find because they were only available for the late model 1100's.

Whether this final drive came out only on the GK and also on the G, I don't know. I doubt it, since in 1984 the only GS shaftie sold in North America was the GK; the last year for the G was 83; I don't know for sure, however. In other words, there was no GS1100G in 1984; only the GK.

Nick

Bike Bandit shows the 83 GS1100GD as having the 2.90 diff ratio
[NT:11/32] 32 / 11 = 2.90

Nick,
You are not far off. Bike Bandit shows the gear sets as being discontinued, but the price is listed as $999.00. I think not for me. The 17inch wheel should give me the 6% improvement a whole lots cheaper.

BB shows all 83 1100G models with the new gear ratio. All 82 models with the old.

I noticed all the 'discontinued' stuff at BikeBandit was $999.99

$999!!!!!!!! My God, I was only kidding when I said $1000. Whew! 8O

The 17-in rear will help, but not all that much, Don. As you know, I've been alternating the stock 16 with the 17 off an old 850, and I can hardly tell the difference.

I better treasure my rear end!

Nick
