    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

GS850 vm inlet boots compatibility

Hi, i have a 1980 GS850. i have some vm26ss carbs fitted to it using some modified inlet rubbers off a GS750. ive had it running but it runs very rough. i thought until recently they needed a good balancing but when i attached the vacuum guages only one of the carbs showed a vacuum reading. i think this is due to the gs750 inlet boots that i used.

Is there a uk company that supplies these new or are there any compatible from other bikes that used the same carbs like the early kawasaki z1000?

any info would be greatly appreciated

I had exactly the same issues with my '80 GS850. It has VM29 carbs and the previous owner used the stock inlet pipes for that year. They fit the head but were too large for the carb spigots so the more I tightened them the more they ripped. I bought some KZ1000 inlet pipes from Z1 and enlarged the holes ( had to open them really because the difference in bolt distance was that big) and fabricated some oval washers. They seem to be OK but I'm still not convinced as it idles fine before a ride but when it gets up to operating temps the idle jumps to 1500 and stays there. There are generic inlet pipes that you can get apparently but I have not gone that route yet because I like the fact that mine have the spigots for car synching.

Do you have carb spacers? Mine came with carb spacers because otherwise the VM29 carbs won't clear the cam chain tensioner.

razooki i have no carb spacers but if i remember correctly i spaced off part of the thtottle spring mechanism which was touching the cam tensioner. ive had the bike a while now but only just getting time again to play with it.

i saw that link in your thread too, was wondering if anyone in the uk has them stocked. i have seen a set of kawasaki ones on ebay and they have the spigots on each inlet which i think would help because as far as i can no1 carb has no vacuum take off so not sure what to do about that yet.
