GSXR inverted forks on GS1100E

I know a few of you have done this mod even though these forks are a tad short for the application. Can anyone tell me what they've done for the upper steering head bearing? The lower one crosses over just fine with the same I.D. & O.D. but the upper on the Gixxer is the same as the lower, and the stock GS upper is smaller. Can someone please shed some light on a fix? :? Thanks in advance!

I just swapped a '95 GSXR 1100 front end onto my '82 GS1100E. Both bearings are exactly the same as the '82. I don't know what year front end you are using but from what I understand '90-'95 GSXR 750 and 1100 front ends are direct swaps, bearings and all. I hope this helps.

Same for me also. As a matter of fact, I'll be selling GSXR forks, triples, 954 triples, and some Ducati standoffs on Ebay in the near future for just this application.

Both bearings should be the same as your GS. Someone likely just stuck two lowers on the triple you bought. You probably will have to use your GS upper seal.

Yes it will, especially well if you use GSXR inverted with a 954 triple clamp.

Yeah, I realize now that I forgot to mention that the forks are 2001 GSXR750 units and no, there are not simply 2 lower bearings on it. The stem is such that it takes the same bearings upper & lower. Now I'm starting to realize I should sell this unit, and get one from an earlier 1100. I want the USD forks, so the early '90's 750's aren't an option for me. Anyone got the inverted 1100 units for sale? That is, unless someone knows how to get the 2001 forks to work. I may be able to press the stem out & have the top turned down enough to take the smaller stock GS bearing. We'll see what comes up for 1100 forks, & guess.

This is how I mounted the GSXR fork to my Buffalo with no modifications other than stops.

What are the length of the GSXR forks you have now? The GS1100's will squat down quite a bit in the front if the forks are too short.

If I'm not mistaken the '89 750 was the first model with USD's, 1100 one year later. Even if you get the stem/bearing situation straightened out the forks will be too short. I just finished the same swap over the weekend on my '82 1100E. I used a '95 front end which, according to Katman, is the tallest of the USD's. The forks are the same length as the old GS units but you still lose 2.5-3 inches of height due to the smaller wheel/tire diameter.

Oh yeah, that would be a '95 1100 front end, not 750.
