A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hard Starts When Cold

Right now I am trying to find the threads that I have seen before on here where there was tips given on how to get these dang blabbit things out!!!!!

I cannot get the carbs out the way the manual says. Just pull back and remove them from the bike after loosening everything they say. Well they are free to move and everything is loose but there is not enough physical room for them to move back enough to pull out of the intake boots!!! Arg!!! :)

It is so frustrating. I would have had this done last night if it wasn't for this. And I have been searching to no avail for past threads with these golden nuggets of wisdom in them.

yea' easier said than done huh? If you pull the air box back as far as you can and up making sure the springs are off the boots that would tip the boots down enough to force the carbs off and give enough room to pull off from the cylinder boots. putting them back on is even harder

There is no way these carbs are coming out of here unless I pull the engine. This is crazy.

OK I got those blasted carbs out. And I have cleaned them extensively. But I do not see anything fancy in them. And there is only one adjustment screw on them and that is the idle air/fuel adjustment screw. Is this the animal you guys are talking about? Because the factory has it plugged off! How on earth do I remove that plug without damaging the screw behind it?

Well Thanks to all again. I tore those carbs apart and cleaned every part and orifice there was then put it all back together. Dom suggested that to get the plugs out that the factory put in there to block the idle air/fuel screws I should carefully drill a small hole in them, put a screw in it and pull them out. Well that all went to easy and worked great!

I followed the directions from multiple threads here on this subject as I spent all day looking them up and reading them and I believe that as of 1:30 AM 8O I have these suckers dialed in pretty close to perfect. The bike never ran this good. It actually has some low end pull now and it is running so smooth I couldn't believe it.

I just got back from a gas run to test my final settings out and I think they are final, I am not going to play with it anymore. It is purring like a kitten and really screams! Not more lean cutting out and best of all... IT STARTS WITHOUT SPRAY!!!

WooHoo :)

Rock on...

congratulations Mark! woo hoo- happy riding! i know how frustrating carb problems are.... good job.

No I am an old muscle car head Phil so I am quite proficient with a can of Berkible Gum Cutter 2+2 and a toothbrush :)

I cleaned those babies up inside and out so clean you could eat off um :)

It worked out so well in the end. The bike runs 3 times better, no exaggeration!

Mark,

Great job! You are now a carb expert!

Joe

LOL! :) Yeah I don't know about expert yet Joe but thx :)
I do have to admit that the setup went a lot easier than I expected.
I am sure that everything being stock (ie... no pods or header and rejetting) had a lot to do with how well it went for me.

well i think its time to get in on the carb experience.....

i've ordered a set of new rings incase my float problem turns into a carb rip down....but if it does i'm confident that several nights of cursing and scrubbing and i'll get it done...
