    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I'm pulling the head off my katana to get the valves done, can somebody please scan and copy the page out of the manual that shows the sequence to undo the head bolts for me? i don't want to just undo them without knowing the right order..thanks heaps in advance.Mark... :D

I'm not aware of a loosening sequence when removing a head, but generally when tightening a head you work from the inner nuts/bolts to the outer in a crisscross pattern, so loosening in a reverse sequence wouldn't hurt. BTW, we need to know yr/model of bike. I would also strongley suggest that you acquire a manual before doing too much to your bike.
 
the model is 1982 gsx750s, as for loosening i was always led to believe, it is just as important to undo in sequence, as it is to do up in sequence. :)
 
The Haynes manual specifies the reverse of the tightening sequence. You would simply loosen the leftmost outer pair, then the rightmost outer pair and work in.

i'm not sure, but all suzi's i've come into contact with have each bolt numbered somewhere near it. say there's 12 bolts, then loosen:

12,11,10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1

and tighten

1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12

a little at a time going through... but you knew that
 
flyingace you said the haynes manual said to do them from the left outside working in, do you have the manual???if so can you PLEASE scan it for me, i really need to get this off so i can get it running again.thanks mate. Mark
 
Check the head casting to see if the bolts are numbered. If not it's best to start at the center and loosen a little at a time going diagonally across the head loosening.
 
Okay, the first line wil be intake from left to right and the second line exhaust left to right. This is for twelve bolt heads.

12...6...2...4...8...10

11...7...3...1...5...9
 
It doesn't matter when removing the head, just don't drop any nut or washer down the cam chain tunnel. When installing the head just follow the numbers casted inside the head. All you're doing in ensuring a good gasket seal by working the gasket out from the center to the ends.

It's not that your going to warp the head if you don't.
