A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

i just bought this bike from my dad, gs1100e. it ran great while he had it but it has been sitting in garage for about two years. i bike starts fine with choke on but it does not idle with coke off. when you are driving down the road just cruising (no throttle on) and shut off choke the bike will die. taking off is very sluggish, also have your drive it for an hour or so the left two pipes on the exhaust manifold are really hot but that part is normal however the right two pipes on exhaust manifold are hot hot at all. this gs 1100 is acting alot like my gs 750 when the points and condensers went out on it. i just need a little help and some ideas. i have really work on the 1100 before.

Sounds like the carbs need a complete disassembly and cleaning with new o-rings. Also, if the problem was ignition you would most likely have problems with1/4 or 2/3. A valve adjustment couldn't hurt either

my dad and i havnt adjusted the valves on this before because it ran so great! is the valve adjustment the same as a 78gs750 with the disk shims?

holy crap that is awesome and 10x easier than my gs750!! thank you

Pull the carbs & rebuild them. If you dont know how or dont want to do it, I rebuild them & specialize in 16 valve 1100s & 1150s.
Ray.

Gentlemen on all my old bikes I take the time to replace all the throttle shaft seals when doing the carbs. Its not hard- but its a little time consuming. On my 83 GS1100E all the seals were cement hard.

Do you have a favorite source for those seals?
