DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hey guys, I hope that you are all well. I'm in the middle of my first part engine rebuild. I took the cylinders off to check pistons etc. Any way, I've put the cylinders back on, the head back on top of that. However, I've come across these small, orange flexible washers (seals?) that look like they are hugely important :D:D

I have 4 of them and the bike is a 1985 GS650GT. I can't for the life of me find reference to them in my manual... Where do they live?
Pic for reference. Thanks in advance.

Picture does not work, but I would think they are oil gallery seals that go in the cylinder head gasket. The 4 outermost cylinder studs. Also the cylinder head washers under the nuts are not all the same, 4 copper washers on outermost studs to seal the oilway.

There four nuts on the outside right and left that secure the cylinder head. The washers go there and act as a gasket and are usually reusable if not damaged. They are the nuts that are outboard of the valve cover.

HA! Beat me to it. Anyway, what he said.

Excuse my idiocy....for clarity, they live underneath the head gasket? I.e put them on the 4 outer studs, then put the head gasket on and then the head on top of that?
Thanks again in advance.

The headgasket should have holes large enough to center those gaskets where necessary.

.

Did you purchase OEM Suzuki gaskets or some aftermarket gasket kit? If aftermarket, it's hard to figure out where things go sometimes. I agree that those look like stud seals that fit inside holes in the head gasket. Just guessing though.

All sorted now, massive help all, thankyou. They did indeed go in the larger holes in the (aftermarket) head gasket!
