If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

So my tank took a header off some boxes and ended up with a sizable dent (did not kill the kitty)...had a guy at the shop weld a stud to it (Dent King did not work) to pull it out worked...sorta...blew a hole through the metal but I got the dent leveled out to where I can bondo it...my question is can I JB Weld the hole which is aprox 3/8" diameter and bondo over it? Hole is at the top of the tank and will not have pressure on it from fuel. Any comments/suggestions are appreciated.

Will clean the tank after bondo & priming any is Kreem or the Por stuff better?

As I've read here many times, JB weld does not hold up to gas. The best solution is as Old Colt stated, weld the hole. Perhaps a brazed patch will work as well...

You are already filling in surface imperfections & painting the tank anyway - do it right.

I used the POR-15 process on 2 of my tanks & was very pleased with the results - I've never used the Kreem stuff however...

Good luck,

mike

I did not read the lower line, Kreem is a thing of the past, it does not hold up in todays fuels. POR or RedKote are preferred.

Brazing will definitely work. Having a new coating is a great idea.

I have not used the POR , but had professional cleaning and coating done by a specialist gas tank repair shop. Many radiator shops will also do this.

As always I will rely on the wisdom and knowledge of the posters here. I will however need to find someone to do it as I do not have the equipment and do not trust the guy who welded the stud on to braze or weld the hole closed. Thanks to all.

lots of information on this topic previously posted. Just do a search.

As mentioned, welding and or brazing is the best approach but it needs an expert to do it. Gas fumes + spark or flame+ boom!

Epoxy putty ( plumbers section Lowes, HomeDepot etc) works as it is impervious to gas. Search my previous posts for more detail.

Por 15 ok, Phenol Novolac ( 2 part epoxy Caswell Plating) much better. Also well covered in posts.

Good luck with it.

Soldering works as well and you can get away with less heat than you need for brazing which means that you avoid a lot of the risk of distortion.
