    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I really like the instrumentation found on newer sport bikes and I am wondering how feasable it would be to swap one of these instrument clusters onto our bikes. I don't have a clue how the sensors for the tach, speedometer, gear indicator, or fuel gauge work so this could be a ridiculous idea. Does anyone have any insight on this type or mod or know where I can learn about our instrumentation?
 
I have looked at this for some time. I am now on speedo # 4, original lost in a front ender early on, # 2 & 3 suffered from internal failure, I guess they were off someone else s bike for a reason. I just got a low mileage one off of Ebay and hoping it will last.

IMO going to a different cluster from a different manufacture is definitely doable. How much time it will take is another matter and then you have a unit that may or may not work like the original or be accurate, this is just not something I would choose to do.

I have been looking at several aftermarket indicators and for my money I will be going the Acewell route if these last OEM indicators don't pan out. I'm done messing with this, the Acewell unit although pricy at $ 300.00 will give me all the information that I would ever need and be accurate, solid state and I think it will look cool too.

I guess it all comes down to what your time is worth and what your after.

gsxr gauges from the 90's swap in pretty easy, i got mine for bout 80 bucks on ebay.

That sounds pretty cool. Got any pics? Did you have to mess with the sensors at all or just new electrical connectors?
 
Also the older ('89?-2001???) GS500 twin's clusters (the older ones use a cable driven tach) make a real sharp looking swap with same speedo & tach ratios, better and more classy looking than the gsxr imo. Just figure out the wiring & mounts & you're good.
 
Not to be confused with the old old rare gs500 four cylinders. 88 or 89+ gs500 twins.

You will see some pictures of two GSXR dashboards I've been using on my GS 1000s.
You need to use the original plug to connect the GSXR gauges but the color scheme is identical.
There is only one wire to add to feed the Tachometer from the switched side of one of the ignition coils.
The speedometer is mechanical so no change there provided you use the pick-up that goes with the front wheel you are using;)

2000 model year GS500 cluster looks classier on our vintage bikes than most of the "vintage" GS spaceship consoles in my opinion. The dual pod setup with the seperate indicator light console on some old gs models is the only one I care for.

They are 130mph, sorry, the best photos that I could find above is a 200kmph model from a foreign market

These look like a great alternative to some digital after market gauges.

Your link did not work but I found some others. This one provides several shots of the gauges although these are a little weathered.
