A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

I think I fried my ignition

I did the coil relay mod on my bike yesterday. I have a Martek ignition and was following directions for the Dyna that I followed. I hooked up the red wire to direct 12 volt as directions stated was the hot wire for Dyna ignition. Unfortunately for me the hot wire was the black lead on the Martek, mistake on my part. I now have no signal coming to that coil from the ignition. This is a sealed unit so I am not able to see anything in the ignition. The wire I hooked up the 12volt to is the one that won't feed the coil anymore if that makes sense?

I think I may be in the market for a new ignition. I switched coil wires and it is defintely not the coils.

On another note does anyone know if a product shows up on Z1 enterprizes does that mean they have it in stock? Any other companies with prices as good? Thanks for any advice. Jim

Does this sound like the ignition is toast or are there anything else to check?

Sorry I'm not familiar with your ignition system but it certainly sounds like it might be at fault.

Could you provide any details about it? any pictures or diagrams?

How exactly did you wire it? what poles on the relay to where? Just want to double check.

I'll see what I can find out.

Hang in and we'll figure it out.

Cheers,
Spyug

The Martek is an electronic ignition similar to the Dyna. It's from the early 80's I believe. It was actually installed in the bike already for years and I was doing the coil relay mod. http://www.wgcarbs.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=12&Itemid=26 They are correct instructions, it was my fault for thinking the red wire on the Martek was hot as the Dyna is. So basically I simply hooked up the red wire coming from the ignition which was supposed to go to the coil to a hot wire.

I figure the ignition is dead unless there is something I don't know or there is a way to repair it. The ignition is a sealed unit. One good thing is I do get full voltage to the coils now with the relay mod.
