DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hey all, Can some one tell me what model my bike is please? VIN is GS110X500109. I believe its an E model, chain drive Canadian bike, silver paint, blue pinstripes.......
Ive been unable to find a VIN decoder that helped me.
Al

One way would be to look at the VIN plate on the steering stem. Along with the number you posted, there should be a stamp at the end of it that will show a "T" or an "X". My guess is that it will show a "T". I believe the standard for VINs changed for the '81 model year to a 17-digit number. Since yours is less than that, it would be an '80, giving it the "T" suffix.

The most definitive way would be to look at the upper-right corner of the VIN plate, where it shows the assembly date. Keep in mind that bikes had to be assembled early, so the '80 models might be assembled as early as August, 1979, up through July of 1980.

.

The stick on VIN plate is almost completely missing, but what remains shows a 9/79 build date. My Title shows 1980.
So does that make it a T or an E model? Its chain drive so its not a G for sure......
Thanks
Al

It's a 1980 model, that is both "T" and "E". :-k

The "E" indicates that it is a chain-driven model, the "T", which comes after the "E", shows that it is an '80.

The full, proper designation is "GS1100ET", but that is only understood by GSR members and (sometimes) the geeks behind the parts counter. Being Canadian, you might also know it by the designation that the rest of the world knows it by: GSX1100E.

A T or E or G would be the model or type.

A N or T or or X or Z would be the year code (79, 80, 81, 82)

Manufacture date of 9/79 will most likley be an 1980 model year.
Titles can be wrong for the year, because that is just what some clerk entered when it was first titled.

See the model chart link back on GSR home page (not the forumn).

On the model chart, there is NO 1100 for 79, the only 1100 for 1980 was the E model, so GS1100ET (E model T meaning 1980)

A good picture would help some of the folks here ID it.
