    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

If you get REAL stumped on doing your valve adjustment, I will be (sort of) in the neighborhood for a few weeks.

I've learned (am learning) the hard way that not listening to the advice given freely when asked for leads to many many more problems that would have been resolved the first time. I just hate to see people continue having issues because they didn't bother to make the effort to try especially knowing the problems could have been resolved sooner had they.
I think you may have jumped the gun a little on this one. I think he's just taking in advise and does plan to follow it with some help.

so i got the carbs all synced and the points cleaned and adjusted. if i didn't go to this guy i would never have known about adjusting them and apparently they were way off. i think the points being out of wack was the bigger problem. so with a bit of tweaking i took it off the lift and got it to 95 in like.. 7 seconds. WHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMM! HOLY **** my bike is running better than ever realized it could. (AWWWW YEA!) i will post to see if any of this helpS the cold start issue tomorrow or the next day when i try to start it cold. thanks for the help and ideas everyone. yall rock.

It's amazing what a little maintenance will do.:p
 
well the bike cold started 10000x easier, but was still a little bit difficult, still had to choke it and needed to kick it 6-7 times (far... far far less than before). and im tellin you its running amazing. its been a long time coming but we finally did it. my bike runs like it should, sounds like it should, all the electrical (besides electric start- pishposh) works. so im satisfied. i feel accomplished, i have a amazing working piece of history that spanks the pants off of my buddies Harley in any kind of a race any day. on cloud 9 :dancing:
 
Still need to do that valve adjustment if you want it perfect.

for sure, is my next project.
He is on my list, we are working out the details.

My 650 had an ether addiction too, it turned out to be bad spark!
I installed new Spark Plug Wires, new Plug Caps, and did the Coil Mod...WOW!!!
 
In this order....


Valve adjustment.
Refresh plug ends by cutting about 1/4 inch off each of them and rescrew the caps back on..dab of dielectric grease on the post in the cap wont hurt either.
Check points..you stated you already did though.
Start and check timing.
Sync the carbs.

I do have to ask if you have replaced the intake manifold orings. Think of things as a daisey chain..cant do one without having an effect on the other. So doing all of them and getting everything within specs keeps the chain equally strong in all the links.

Might as well replace the plug caps if you're going to trim the wires. If you store your bike outside, and don't cover it, you might try covering it so condensation is minimized. especially if you keep your points.

i keep it under a 3-walls-closed in car port, do you think i should still cover it? its a ever other day if not daily rider.
