DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Okay I really need some help with this- I don't know what's going on.

I just bought a GS650 and a week ago it would start up and run fine. I took the tank off to paint it and reupolstered the seat. Now it won't start. All I get when I push the start button is a clicking noise from the solenoid.

Now since I have yet to drive the thing I may be doing somethig wrong, but to start it I put the kickstand up, squeeze tyhe clutch all the way in, have the bike in neutral, with the key turned on, the red switch to run, and press the start button. I think I'm doing everything right- it just makes no sense for this to not be starting. Oh and it has a fresh battery with a full charge.

What do I need to do to fix this? And please be thurough- I can do anythign with a car but am completely lost when it comes to motorcycles.

does the motor turn over at all? try rolling the bike in gear. did the motor somehow flood with gas when you took off the tank, i doubt it happened.

Make sure all your connections throughout your starting system (battery, starter, relay, etc.) are good and clean and tight.
Good luck
Maybe double check the voltage in the battery

Sounds like a connection problem. While you have that tank off, I would replace fuel lines, filter, clean all connections to coil and battery, too.

I have run into this problem a few times in my several time I have dismantled parts on the bike and reassembled them. Just take you time and thoroughly check the electrical conections. Check these first: starter wire, solenoid connections, grounding wires and battery connections.

Well, if the relay is clacking, you know you're connected that far. First, make sure the battery is good. Easiest way is to jump it from your car - if the problem goes away, the battery was at fault.

If it doesn't, the relay must not be talking to the starter or the starter is bad. You can hook the starter up to juice and see if it spins, and that'll tell you what's what.

Good luck.

If you do try to jump it from your car battery, be sure the car is NOT running. A car's charging current is too high for your bike.

ap72...?? I notice you've been posting other questions about other problems....did you fix this one and what was the fix?? May be helpful for others with the same problem!!

sorry for the delay- this problem has been fixed- I just needed to rebuild the starter. No big deal really, just a few hours of time on a weekday night.
