A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

OK so it doesnt look like I am going to be scoring any nice pipes any time soon. So I need to do something and the best I can come up with it to paint and possibly wrap them.

This the bike:

So who wants to chime in on an exhaust color? Grey? Black? Red? Gold???

All ideas welcome :)

I wrapped mine and am happy with the look.

I left mine natural (painted pipes black underneath), but last week I ran into a guy with a Bonneville, and he had his headers wrapped and painted black, and it looked really tight.

You could go hot pink and be the talk of the town, but you might not like what people are saying.

edit to add: I used 2 inch wrap and it cost me less than $30 (ebay). So it wouldn't be too expensive to give it a try.

Also, when you are trying to figure out if a cylinder is firing or not, the header wrap comes in super handy. They get hot, but not so hot that you can't touch them for a second or two and diagnose.

Too bad you can't get them re-chromed. They seem to help balance the black/chrome theme you've got going. To go to another color seems as if it'll throw off the balance....but still might look good.

If you can't do chrome, I'd opt for black. Gotta stick with the theme.

I have stock (factory) black chrome pipes on mine and I like the look.

A few years back I restored a Virago that had really rusty chrome pipes. I cleaned off as much rust and painted them with flat black engine paint. I think they looked fine.

I'm not a big fan of the pipe wrap look but if it works for you go ahead.

Good luck with the project.

Cheers,
Spyug.

Yea in a perfect world I could cough up the ungodly amount of money to have it rechromed or someone would make a new one for me to buy. But since neither of those things appear to be an option and I can't gamble on a $400 exhaust that I MAY be able to make work i have to settle for painting.

I got some semi-gloss hightemp 1200 deg paint. Hope it works :P
