A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

On my friends bike, 100% stock....

The right side will only come on if he first flicks it left & then quickly right.. this does not work every time but if it does they then work as they should (until the next time he tries to use them).

left side works fine.

I suspect switch in the control needs looking at, anyone think of anything else that would be more or just as likely??

Dan :)

Hi Dan,

Yes, I would start with the switch too. Sometimes it's a process of elimination.

Hey, why don't you plan a ride through some of those Mailbu canyons soon? Let's get the gang together. :D

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

Thanks Cliff...

I just got back from one.... that's how I know about the turn signal :D

Would be good to get us all up there sometime soon... we can ride there no problems in December for sure.

Dan :)

Had a similar problem on my 85.One side would not flash, can't remember which side.Took out the flasher and used one from one of my 83 parts bikes. Both sides now work.I'm at a loss as to why(shrugs).

I don't know if that model has the older style self canceling unit, but I found that the distance counter in My '78 turn signal wiring, in the clocks, caused intermittent and erratic operation of the turn signals.

Has your friend replaced anything in the circuit recently (bulb, turn signal stalks, etc.)? If so, it's possible that the new item has higher resistance than what was replaced.

It could also be a sign of low output in the charging system. A quick test would be to temporarily remove the headlamp fuse and see if the signals operate properly.
